Health · Cognition · Decision · Action

Investing · Health · Decision · Philosophy

Leadership · Human nature · Health · Decision

Charlie Munger:Deserve What You Want

Charlie Munger《USC Law School Commencement Address (2007)》· Deserving what you want · Character · Philosophy · Action

The safest way to try and get what you want is to try and deserve what you want.

2007 USC Law School commencement transcript, paragraph beginning “What are the core ideas that have helped me?”

Reading

The surest path to getting what you want is to deserve it.

Context

In his 2007 USC Law commencement address, Munger made deserving what you want his first piece of advice. The safest way to get what you want, he said, is to become the kind of person who deserves it. This is not moralizing; it is a practical logic of trust and long-term cooperation.

Today's question

Do you deserve what you are pursuing—and if not, what will you change first?
