萬物尊天而貴風雨。所以尊天者，爲其莫不受命焉也。所以貴風雨者，爲其莫不待風而動，待雨而濡也。若使萬物釋天而更有所受命，釋風而更有所仰動，釋雨而更有所仰濡，則無爲尊天而貴風雨矣。今人君之所尊安者，爲其威立而令行也。其所以能立威行令者，爲其威利之操莫不在君也。若使威利之操不專在君，而有所分散，則君日益輕，而威利日衰，侵暴之道也。故曰：「三經既飭，君乃有國。」

文學曰：「夫賤不害智，貧不妨行。顏淵屢空，不為不賢。孔子不容，不為不聖。必將以貌舉人，以才進士，則太公終身鼓刀，寧戚不離飯牛矣。古之君子，守道以立名，修身以俟時，不為窮變節，不為賤易誌，惟仁之處，惟義之行。臨財茍得，見利反義，不義而富，無名而貴，仁者不為也。故曾參、閔子，不以其仁易晉、楚之富。伯夷不以其行易諸侯之位，是以齊景公有馬千駟，而不能與之爭名。孔子曰：『賢哉回也！一簞食，一瓢飲，在於陋巷，人不堪其憂，回也不改其樂。』故惟仁者能處約、樂，小人富斯暴，貧斯濫矣。楊子曰：『為仁不富，為富不仁。』茍先利而後義，取奪不厭。公卿積億萬，大夫積千金，士積百金，利己幷財以聚；百姓寒苦，流離於路，儒獨何以完其衣冠也？」

桓公去易牙、豎刁、衛公子開方。五味不至，於是乎復反易牙。宮中亂，復反豎刁。利言卑辭不在側，復反衛公子開方。桓公內不量力，外不量交，而力伐四鄰。公薨，六子皆求立。易牙與衛公子，內與豎刁，因共殺羣吏而立公子無虧。故公死七日不斂，九月不葬。孝公犇宋，宋襄公率諸侯以伐齊，戰于甗，大敗齊師，殺公子無虧，立孝公而還。襄公立十三年，桓公立四十二年。

• Our major businesses did well last year. In fact, each of our five largest non-insurance companies – BNSF, Iscar, Lubrizol, Marmon Group and MidAmerican Energy – delivered record operating earnings. In aggregate these businesses earned more than $9 billion pre-tax in 2011. Contrast that to seven years ago, when we owned only one of the five, MidAmerican, whose pre-tax earnings were $393 million. Unless the economy weakens in 2012, each of our fabulous five should again set a record, with aggregate earnings comfortably topping $10 billion.
