國英問：「曾子『三省』雖切，恐是未聞『一貫』時工夫？」 先生曰：「『一貫』是夫子見曾子未得用功之要，故告之。學者果能忠、恕上用功，豈不是『一貫』？『一』如樹之根本，『貫』如樹之枝葉；未種根，何枝葉之可得？體、用一源，體未立，用安從生？謂『曾子於其用處，蓋已隨事精察而力行之，但未知其體之一。』，此恐未盡。」
