劉觀時問：「『未發之中』是如何？」 先生曰：「汝但戒慎不睹，恐懼不聞，養得此心純是天理，便自然見。」 觀時請略示氣象。 先生曰：「啞子喫苦瓜，與你說不得。你要知此苦，還須你自喫。」 時曰仁在傍，曰：「如此才是真知即是行矣。」 一時在座諸友皆有省。
