先生問在坐之友：「比來工夫何似？」 一友舉虛明意思。 先生曰：「此是說光景。」 一友敘今昔異同。 先生曰：「此是說效驗。」 二友惘然，請是。 先生曰：「吾輩今日用功，只是要為善之心真切。此心真切，見善即遷、有過即改，方是真切工夫。如此，則人欲日消、天理日明。若只管求光景、說效驗，卻是助長外馳病痛，不是工夫。」
