九川問：「自省念慮，或涉邪妄，或預料理天下事，思到極處，井井有味，便繾綣難屏，覺得早則易，覺遲則難，用力克治，愈覺扞格，惟稍遷念他事，則隨兩忘。如此廓清，亦似無害。」 先生曰：「何須如此，只要在良知上著功夫。」 九川曰：「正謂那一時不知。」 先生曰：「我這裏自有功夫，何緣得他來？只為爾功夫斷了，便蔽其知。既斷了，則繼續舊功便是，何必如此？」 九川曰：「直是難鏖，雖知丟他不去。」 先生曰：「須是勇；用功久，自有勇。故曰『是集義所生者』，勝得容易，便是大賢。」
