先生曰：「吾教人『致良知』在『格物』上用功，卻是有根本的學問。日長進一日，愈久愈覺精明。世儒教人事事物物上去尋討，卻是無根本的學問。方其壯時，雖暫能外面修飾，不見有過；老則精神衰邁，終須放倒。譬如無根之樹，移栽水邊，雖暫時鮮好，終久要憔悴。」
