一友常易動氣責人。 先生警之曰：「學須反己。若徒責人，只見得人不是，不見自已非。若能反己，方見自己有許多未盡處，奚瑕責人？舜能化得象的傲，其機括只是不見象的不是。若舜只要正他的姦惡，就見得象的不是矣；象是傲人，必不肯相下，如何感化得他？」 是友感悔。 曰：「你今後只不要去論人之是非，凡當責辯人時，就把做一件大己私克去，方可。」
