以方問曰：「先生之說『格物』：凡《中庸》之『慎獨』及『集義』、『博約』等說，皆為『格物』之事。」 先生曰：「非也。格物即慎擉、即戒懼。至於『集義』、『博約』，工夫只一般。不是以那數件都做『格物』底事。」
