來書云：「致知之說，春間再承誨益，已頗知用力，覺得比舊尤為簡易。但鄙心則謂與初學言之，還須帶『格物』意思，使之知下手處。本來『致知』、『格物』一併下，但在初學未知下手用功，還說與『格物』，方曉得『致知』云云。」 「格物」是「致知」功夫，知得「致知」便已知得「格物」；若是未知「格物」，則是「致知」工夫亦未嘗知也。近有一書與友人論此頗悉，今往一通，細觀之，當自見矣。
