古之教者，教以人倫。後世記誦詞章之習起，而先王之教亡。今教童子，惟當以孝、弟、忠、信、禮、義、廉、恥為專務；其栽培涵養之方，則宜誘之歌詩以發其志意，導之習禮以肅其威儀，諷之讀書以開其知覺。今人往往以歌詩、習禮為不切時務，此皆末俗庸鄙之見，烏足以知古人立教之意哉？
