問曰：「興時化若何？」「莫善於侈靡。賤有實，敬無用，則人可刑也。故賤粟米而如敬珠玉，好禮樂而如賤事業，本之始也。珠者，陰之陽也，故勝火。玉者，陰之陰也，故勝水。其化如神。故天子臧珠玉，諸侯臧金石，大夫畜狗馬，百姓臧布帛。不然，則强者能守之，智者能牧之，賤所貴而貴所賤。不然，鰥寡獨老不與得焉，均之始也。」
