尺寸尋丈者，所以得短長之情也。故以尺寸量短長，則萬舉而萬不失矣。是故尺寸之度，雖富貴衆强不爲益長，雖貧賤卑辱不爲損短，公平而無所偏，故姦詐之人不能誤也。故《明法》曰：「有尋丈之數者，不可差以長短。」
