姦臣之敗其主也，積漸積微，使主迷惑而不自知也。上則相爲候望於主，下則買譽於民。譽其黨而使主尊之，毀不譽者而使主廢之，其所利害者，主聽而行之。如此，則羣臣皆忘主而趨私佼矣。故明法曰：「比周以相爲慝，是故忘主死佼以進其譽。」
