大夫曰：「諸生妄言！議者令可詳用，無徒守椎車之語，滑稽而不可循。夫漢之有匈奴，譬若木之有蠹，如人有疾，不治則寖以深。故謀臣以為擊奪以困極之。諸生言以德懷之，此有其語而不可行也。諸生上無以似三王，下無以似近秦，令有司可舉而行當世，安蒸庶而寧邊境者乎？」
