帝聘隋通事舍人鄭仁基女為充華，詔已行，冊使將發，魏徵聞其嘗許嫁士人陸爽，遽上表諫。帝聞之，大驚，手詔深自克責，命停冊使。房玄齡等奏稱：「許嫁陸氏，無顯狀，大禮既行，不可中止。」爽亦表言初無婚姻之議。帝謂征曰：「群臣或容希合；爽亦自陳，何也？」對曰：「彼以陛下為外雖捨之，或陰加罪譴，故不得不然。」帝笑曰：「外人意或當如是。朕之言未能使人必信如此邪？」
