癸未，上謂長孫無忌等曰：「今日吾生日，世俗皆為樂，在朕翻成傷感。今君臨天下，富有四海，而承歡膝下，永不可得，此子路所以有負米之恨也。《詩》云：『哀哀父母，生我劬勞。』奈何以劬勞之日更為宴樂乎！」因泣數行下，左右皆悲。
