上疾未全平，欲專保養，庚午，詔軍國機務並委皇太子處決。於是太子間日聽政於東宮，既罷，則入侍藥膳，不離左右。上命太子暫出遊觀，太子辭不願出；上乃置別院於寢殿側，使太子居之。褚遂良請遣太子旬日一還東宮，與師傅講道義；從之。
