己巳，許敬宗奏曰：「永徽爰始，國本未生，權引彗星，越升明兩。近者元妃載誕，正胤降神，重光日融，爝暉宜息。安可反植枝幹，久易位於天庭；倒襲裳衣，使違方於震位！又，父子之際，人所難言，事或犯鱗，必嬰嚴憲，煎膏染鼎，臣亦甘心。」上召見，問之，對曰：「皇太子，國之本也，本猶未正，萬國無所繫心。且在東宮者，所出本微，今知國家已有正嫡，必不自安。竊位而懷自疑，恐非宗廟之福，願陛下熟計之。」上曰：「忠已自讓。」對曰：「能為太伯，願速從之。」
