西突厥頡苾達度設數遣使請兵討沙缽羅可汗。甲戌，遣豐州都督元禮臣冊拜頡苾達度設為可汗。禮臣至碎葉城，沙缽羅發兵拒之，不得前。頡苾達度設部落多為沙缽羅所並，餘眾寡弱，不為諸姓所附，禮臣竟不冊拜而歸。
