夫凡私之所起，必生於主。夫上好本，則端正之士在前。上好利，則毀譽之士在側。上多喜善賞不隨其功，則士不爲用。數出重法而不克其罪，則姦不爲止。明王知其然，故見必然之政，立必勝之罰，故民知所必就，而知所必去。推則往，召則來，如墜重於高，如瀆水於地。故法不煩而吏不勞，民無犯禁。故百姓無怨於上，上亦法臣法，斷名決，無誹譽。故君法則主位安，臣法則貨賂止，而民無姦。嗚呼美哉！名斷言澤。
