No crisis should intimidate you; the courage to burn your boats is the key to breaking out.
Context
Lei's 2024 speech, "Courage," recounted Xiaomi's decision to build a car. Facing U.S. sanctions and the possibility that its phone business could be cut off, the board raised the idea of carmaking; Lei ultimately chose to lead the effort and fund it entirely. His conclusion: no matter how huge the crisis, do not be intimidated - the courage to burn one's boats is the key to breaking out.
Today's question
If failure were costly, would you still step forward for the right thing?
