文學曰：「商鞅之開塞，非不行也；蒙恬卻胡千里，非無功也；威震天下，非不強也；諸侯隨風西面，非不從也；然而皆秦之所以亡也。商鞅以權數危秦國，蒙恬以得千里亡秦社稷：此二子者，知利而不知害，知進而不知退，故果身死而眾敗。此所謂戀朐之智，而愚人之計也，夫何大道之有？故曰：『小人先合而後忤，初雖乘馬，卒必泣血。』此之謂也。」
