大夫曰：「七十子躬受聖人之術，有名列於孔子之門，皆諸侯卿相之才，可南面者數人云。政事者冉有、季路，言語宰我、子貢。宰我秉事，有寵於齊，田常作難，道不行，身死庭中，簡公殺於檀臺。子路仕衛，孔悝作亂，不能救君出亡，身菹於衛；子貢、子臯遁逃，不能死其難。食人之重祿不能更，處人尊官不能存，何其厚於己而薄於君哉？同門共業，自以為知古今之義，明君臣之禮。或死或亡，二三子殊路，何道之悖也！」
