丞相史曰：「八十曰耋，七十曰耄。耄，食非肉不飽，衣非帛不暖。故孝子曰甘毳以養口，輕暖以養體。曾子養曾皙，必有酒肉。無端絻，雖公西赤不能以為容。無肴膳，雖閔、曾不能以卒養。禮無虛加，故必有其實然後為之文。與其禮有餘而養不足，寧養有餘而禮不足。夫洗爵以盛水，升降而進糲，禮雖備，然非其貴者也。」
