丙午，至營州。詔遼東戰亡士卒骸骨並集柳城東南，命有司設太牢，上自作文以祭之，臨哭盡哀。其父母聞之，曰：「吾兒死而天子哭之，死何所恨！」上謂薛仁貴曰：「朕諸將皆老，思得新進驍勇者將之，無如卿者；朕不喜得遼東，喜得卿也。」
