來書云：「道之大端易於明白，所謂『良知、良能，愚夫愚婦可與及者』。至於節目時變之詳，毫釐千里之謬，必待學而後知。今語孝於溫凊定省，孰不知之？至於舜之不告而娶，武之不葬而興師，養志、養口，小杖、大杖，割股、廬墓等事，處常、處變，過與不及之間，必須討論是非，以為制事之本，然後心體無蔽，臨事無失。」 「道之大端易於明白」，此語誠然。顧後之學者忽其易於明白者而弗由，而求其難於明白者以為學，此其所以「道在邇而求諸遠，事在易而求諸難」也。孟子云：「夫道若大路然，豈難知哉？人病不由耳。」良知、良能，愚夫、愚婦與聖人同；但惟聖人能致其良知，而愚夫、愚婦不能致，此聖、愚之所由分也。節目時變，聖人夫豈不知？但不專以此為學。而其所謂學者，正惟致其良知，以精審此心之天理，而與後世之學不同耳。吾子未暇真知之致，而汲汲焉顧是之憂，此正求其難於明白者以為學之蔽也。 夫良知之於節目時變，猶規矩、尺度之於方圓、長短也；

Our merchants frequently complain of the high wages of British labour, as the cause of their manufactures being undersold in foreign markets; but they are silent about the high profits of stock. They complain of the extravagant gain of other people; but they say nothing of their own. The high profits of British stock, however, may contribute towards raising the price of British manufactures, in many cases, as much, and in some perhaps more, than the high wages of British labour.

The net result of the application of these principles is the reduction of the necessity for thought on the part of the worker and the reduction of his movements to a minimum. He does as nearly as possible only one thing with only one movement.
