其詩曰：「有渰淒淒，興雲祁祁，雨我公田，遂及我私。」民三年耕，則餘一年之畜。衣食足而知榮辱，廉讓生而爭訟息，故三載考績。孔子曰「苟有用我者，期月而已可也，三年有成」，成此功也。三考黜陟，餘三年食，進業曰登；再登曰平，餘六年食；三登曰泰平，二十七歲，遺九年食。然後鲈德流洽，禮樂成焉。故曰「如有王者，必世而後仁」，繇此道也。 周室既衰，暴君污吏慢其經界，繇役橫作，政令不信，上下相詐，公田不治。故魯宣公「初稅畝」，春秋譏焉。於是上貪民怨，災害生而禍亂作。 陵夷至於戰國，貴詐力而賤仁誼，先富有而後禮讓。

以方問「尊德性」一條。 先生曰：「『道問學』即所以『尊德性』也。晦翁言子靜以『尊德性』誨人，某教人豈不是『道問學』處多了些子？是分『尊德性』、『道問學』作兩件，且如今講習討論下許多工夫，無非只是存此心，不失其德性而已。豈有『尊德性』只空空去尊，更不去問學？問學只是空空去問學，更與德性無關涉？如此，則不知今之所以講習討論者，更學何事？」 問「致廣大」二句。 曰：「『盡精微』即所以『致廣大』也，『道中庸』即所以『極高明』也。蓋心之本體自是廣大底，人不能『盡精微』，則便為私欲所蔽，有不勝其小者矣。故能細微曲折，無所不盡，則私意不足以蔽之，自無許多障礙遮隔處，如何廣大不致？」 又問：「精微還是念慮之精微？是事理之精微？」 曰：「念慮之精微，即事理之精微也。」
